The goal of this project is to provide shoes to protect the feet of the children in Uganda and beyond.
There are over 30 million people in Uganda, with over half the population consisting of children under the age of 15, most of whom do not have adequate footwear. Providing shoes for children will enable them to walk, work and play with less risk of infection or pain.
After being immersed into the culture of Uganda, Africa for ten weeks the summer of 2009, I found an overwhelming need for children’s feet to be protected by shoes. Disease and infection is quickly spread through open wounds and less than adequate sanitation. This project has the potential to provide hope and healing to the Soles and Hearts of the Ugandan children. The need for adequate health provision can start from the feet up.
The vision is to raise awareness and money to buy locally made shoes for the children of Uganda. A pair of shoes in Uganda can be purchased with what American’s consider pocket change . Funds raised in the US & other wealther nations are funneled directly to African children and will serve a two-fold purpose. First, it will place shoes on the bare feet of children to offer comfort and protection, and secondly it will support the local businesses that provide shoes.
Heart for Soles will be working with experienced and local missionaries to best connect with children and villages that are in great need of shoes. Interested supporters can supply shoes to many children by giving to Heart for Soles!
Several Ugandan villages consist of a few thousand people and about 1,000 children – This year, Heart for Soles would like to provide shoes for a minimum of 3 Villages (1,000 children per village).
In the future, Heart for Soles will build on this initiative and provide more villages with shoes – protecting the hearts, soles and feet of Ugandan Children.

Notice the Bare feet: The children living on Buvuma Island located on Lake Victoria have an overwhelming need for foot-wear because of the distance and lack of transportation of vendors.
